The day my children were born I made a commitment to the future of Indianapolis. I committed myself to making sure that Indianapolis would be a place where my children could reach their dreams. Since that day, as a Deputy Mayor, as a small-business owner, as an environmental lawyer, and as a mom, I’ve worked tirelessly to make that possible, but my work is not done. Until Indianapolis is a place where our children can get a world-class education in good schools that prepare them for college, I won’t stop. Until Indianapolis is an economic engine and a jobs magnet, where our children can find good, quality jobs in new industries just now being born, I won’t stop. Until Indianapolis streets are safe and my children can raise their own families without fear in our neighborhoods, I won’t stop. Until our local environment is sustainable and our rivers run clean, I won’t stop. Until our neighborhoods are connected by a system of trails and transportation alternatives that work for everybody, I won’t stop. Until our city is the Midwest’s premier destination for arts and culture, I won’t stop. Until Indianapolis is a city that reaches higher, one that other cities look to as a model of success, I won’t stop. Today, I ask you to join me in this journey. Let’s get this city moving again. |
